My accessory necessity of the week: spiked jewelry. Nothing adds a little drama and edge to an outfit like spiked jewelry. Fuchsia Lips

My beauty obsession of the week: fuchsia lips. In replacement of a statement necklace this fall, opt for a statement lip instead. Better yet combine the two, as my newest beauty obsession is as wondrously versatile as it is surprisingly classy. Sporting a stand out lip color has become increasingly popular, and my favorite new hue by far is fuchsia. Since this color is meant to be fun, play around with it when putting together your outfit to mix and match un-expected color combos (my particular favorites when donning fuchsia lips are navy or bright yellow). However, make sure when trying out this bold look, to stick with simple eye makeup (such as a strip of liquid eyeliner on your upper lid to create a cat eye), otherwise the look can take on a clown like effect. Leather Peplums

Fashion lust of the week: leather peplum tops. After a long hiatus Poppies n’ Pearls is being reworked and revamped for the upcoming New Year. Along with a new season comes all new styles for the changing weather and trends. My absolute favorite new fashion trend is the leather peplum top. What is so extraordinary about this look is that it seamlessly manages to combine feminine and edgy. The peplum top became a staple in stores and on runways this past spring due to the amazing way it highlights the female figure. By emphasizing your waist while highlighting your chest and hips, the only thing that can make this look any more delicious is to add leather into the equation. This look pairs well with either skinny jeans and a statement heel for nighttime, or a bright pencil skirt and a jacket for the day. My other favorite aspect of the leather peplum is that once the weather warms up, it can easily be carried over into the summer with cute shorts and wedges! Colored Blazers

Fashion lust of the week: colored blazers. After a one month hiatus, Poppies n’ Pearls is back for the summer! With all of the graduation excitement slowly fading away, many of you are now facing the looming prospect of the real world ahead of you. However, along with getting a real job comes the opportunity to revamp your wardrobe! While you always want to remain respectful of the dress code in your workplace, that is no excuse to let your wardrobe become mundane. One of my favorite work appropriate staples is the colored blazer. Completely polished, but still fun and fresh, this item allows you to add a pop of individuality to your office ensemble. My favorite picks for the colored blazer are shades of peach and lavender, both of these colors pair beautifully with a delicate floral top, or a cream shirt and pants. Floral Hair Garlands

Accessory necessity of the week: Floral hair garlands. With the temperature getting as hot as the summer concert lineups, outdoor music festival accessories are beginning to spill over into mainstream fashion. One of my favorite new looks is the floral head garland. Inspired by hippie concertgoers of days past, this is a perfect example of how Woodstock syndrome has taken over the fashion world by storm. One of the great things about this look is you can decide how extreme you want to take it by either sporting a delicate wreath peaking through braids, or a full on wild-flower bouquet springing from your hair. Neon

Fashion lust of the week: Neon. Whether it’s in jewelry, clothing, or shoes, neon is the new hue of summer. While I am still loving all of the pastels and florals we’ve been seeing in stores and on the runways, recently they have quite literally been over shone by the bright neon’s popping up everywhere. I particularly love this look when neon is confined to only one piece of an outfit to bring some edge and draw the eye in to the rest of your ensemble. Be careful not to go too overboard with this exuberant hue though, or you will undoubtedly be mistaken for a misplaced traffic cone. However, remember that neon is not meant to be serious, so have fun with this look by combining it with other trends from this season (stripes, floral patterns etc.) Celebrity fans: Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Dana Bourque. T-Shirt Necklaces

Accessory necessity of the week: T-shirt Necklaces. There are quite a few things that I love about these T-shirt necklaces (otherwise known as T-shirt scarves) that I have seen popping up everywhere from small boutiques to large fashion companies. First off, I love any item that can double as two accessories (a scarf and a necklace? Yes please!) Secondly, with Summer close by, it is a smart idea to start adding pieces to your wardrobe that can make the easy transition from cold to warm weather. Lastly, and probably most importantly, this is an incredibly easy DIY piece! Save some money, recycle an old T-shirt, and plan a craft day with your girlfriends to make one! I personally plan on utilizing the next rainy day to do some spring cleaning, and make one for myself. Below are two links. Ombré Hair

My beauty obsession of the week: Ombré Hair. Anyone who knows me knows that I have had an ongoing love affair with this look for approximately the last year. However, now that the summer months are quickly approaching, ombré hair has come back in full force! Ombré is a french word meaning “shadow”, or a gradation in color. Essentially, this is what the style entails: your hair gradating from dark at the roots, to light at the tips. After finally trying the look for myself there were a few great things that I discovered. 1) It is possibly the easiest hair color to maintain as the more your roots grow out, the better it looks 2) You can control how drastic you want it to be. Either lighten the tips slightly for a subtly summer kissed look, or go for a more extreme variation by dyeing the bottom of your hair as light as possible. I myself initially tried a more understated version of the ombré to begin with, and then discovered I loved it so much that I went back to the salon and had it lightened significantly more for the Spring! Cropped Tops

Fashion lust of the week: cropped tops paired with high waists. While this look may not be for everyone, there are so many variations on this style that are currently coming out, that I truly believe almost anyone can find a variation of this outfit to rock. The key is pairing the right combination of cropped top with high waisted skirt/short/or pant. Firstly you want to make sure you find a top that is cropped at the most flattering point on your stomach or waist, and secondly that you are only showing a small sliver of skin (this is crucial, otherwise your look can drastically turn from flirty and fun to garish and gaudy). My particular favorite variations on the newly popular crop-top craze involve girlie floral patterns (such as on the Dolce & Gabbana runways this spring), or tribal prints with defined structures.
